Small-to-Mid Enterprise Cloud Migration

A reference architecture demonstrating our engineering approach — not a record of a specific deployed customer. No client names, figures or outcomes are attached.

01 Problem

Moving a primarily on-premises estate to a hybrid or cloud-first model without a disruptive cutover or an unplanned cost increase.

02 Components

Identity foundation (Entra ID / IAM), staged workload migration waves, cloud-native backup and monitoring extended from the on-premises estate.

03 Traffic flow

Hybrid connectivity (VPN or dedicated circuit) between on-premises and cloud during the migration period, retired once cutover is complete.

04 Security

Identity and access control established before any workload moves, so access isn't retrofitted after the fact.

05 Failure scenarios

Each migration wave is reversible — rollback is tested before the wave proceeds, so a failed migration wave doesn't strand the organisation mid-transition.

06 Recovery

Backup and DR redesigned for the cloud target, not simply lifted from the old on-premises job — cloud-native snapshot and object-lock tooling replace the old approach.

07 Technology options

AWS or Azure, chosen based on existing organisational investment and workload fit rather than a fixed preference.

08 Trade-offs

Full cloud migration isn't always the right answer — hybrid is often the more honest recommendation for workloads with specific latency, compliance or cost characteristics.
